KENYA NATIONAL BARISTA CHAMPIONSHIP COMPETITOR GUIDE.

Welcome to Kenya Coffee Events, the official competition body mandated by World Coffee Events to conduct coffee competitions in Kenya. In 2024, we are thrilled to announce the upcoming National Barista Championship.

About the Competition:

Organized by Kenya Coffee Events in collaboration with Agriculture and Food Authority - Coffee Directorate, stakeholders such as the Kenya Coffee Traders Association (KCTA), Roasteries, Hotels, and Coffee shops, this event will showcase the best talents in Kenya's coffee industry. The winner will earn the opportunity to represent Kenya at the World Coffee Championships in Busan, South Korea, from May 1st to 4th 2024.

Competition Format:

Competitors from Kenya's premier hotels, restaurants, coffee houses, and independent coffee experts will participate. The competition will adhere to the rules and regulations of the World Coffee Championships. Professional judges from various hospitality establishments and training institutions will preside over preliminary and knockout rounds, with the semi-finals and finals led by an International Head Judge under World Coffee Events (WCE), supported by six Kenyan judges.

Requirements for Registration:

  • Age: Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Detailed CV
  • Nationality: Must be a Kenyan citizen with a valid passport.
  • Education Level: Minimum requirement is a high school graduate.
  • Language: Must have a good command of English and Kiswahili.
  • Professional Training: Must be a professionally trained Coffee Expert.
  • Work Experience: Minimum of 1-year work experience as a Coffee professional.
  • Coffee Knowledge: Must have sufficient coffee knowledge from tree to cup.
  • Participation Fee: Kes.20,000 for the Kenya National Barista Championship (KNBC).

Note: All applications must be accompanied by the participation fee and proof of payment.
